Laurier provides Microsoft Office 365 to every studentfree of charge. As long as you’re a student here and the program continues, you’ll be able to use this software for free.
NOTE: As of July 1, 2021, employees and DCCs separating from the University wil lose access to faculty/staff email and Office 365 immediately on separation.Retirees will have a 60-day grace period, during which they may opt in to retain a University email address through CatMail. Learn more about this access change. Office 365's online and downloadable productivity software is available at no. Microsoft 365 includes downloadable apps for Windows and Mac computers, as well as cloud-based versions of many apps, all of which can be accessed through the web.In all, there are about 20 apps available, aimed at helping productivity and increasing success. - use the same programs as faculty members to ensure full file fidelity

You have access to the latest version of the full Office productivity suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and 5 TB of storage through OneDrive for Business that is available for offline and online use to best prepare you for class.

Obtaining Microsoft Office 365
For PC and Mac:
- Visit portal.office.com.
- Log in with your student @mylaurier.ca email address and email password.
For iOS and Android:
- Download Word, Excel and/or PowerPoint from your app store.
- Sign in with your @mylaurier.ca email address for full editing capability.

Student O365 Account Terms of Use
Microsoft Office 365 (O365) accounts, which include personal @mylaurier.ca email accounts, are provided to students in order to administer the University-student relationship, ensure a channel of communication between students and University faculty and staff, and to allow for collaboration, learning, and research. These Terms of Use set out the University’s expectations for students while using O365 accounts provided by the University.
Laurier information technology, including access to Microsoft Office 365, is made available to students to support their academic activities. Access is governed by university policies, applicable laws, and contractual terms and conditions. By using your Microsoft Office 365 accounts, you agree to the following Terms of Use.
Students should be aware their names and @mylaurier.ca email addresses are visible to other students, faculty, and staff through O365. This is necessary for students to access and use the collaboration tools included in O365. If a student is concerned about the visibility of their name and email address, please contact support@mylaurier.ca.
Acceptable Use
Use of all University provisioned information technology is covered by Policy 9.1 Use of Information Technology. Students should also note the following additional information regarding the use of Office 365 accounts.
Personal Use
Student accounts may be used for personal purposes provided such use does not:
- Directly or indirectly interfere with University operations or services;
- Violate the Non-Academic Student Code of Conduct, Student Code of Conduct: Academic Misconduct, or Use of Information Technology Policy;
- Misuse access to names and/or email addresses visible within O365.
Privacy of Content
While the University respects the reasonable privacy of emails and other records stored or distributed on its servers and networks, students should be aware there is no guarantee of privacy. The University has the right and ability to access information on its systems for a wide variety of legitimate reasons, including:
- To engage in technical maintenance, repair and administration;
- To meet legal requirements to produce information, including electronic records;
- To prevent or investigate misconduct and ensure compliance with legislation and University policies;
- To delete, retract, or remove access to records provided by mistake.
Account Retention
Student @mylaurier.ca email accounts that have not been accessed for five years may be deleted without notice. Upon leaving the University, students should ensure any documents, emails, or other records stored in their O365 account are backed up or saved on a personal device or cloud account if long-term retention is a concern.

Non-compliance with the Terms of Use and University policies may result in disciplinary action under the Non-Academic Student Code of Conduct or Student Code of Conduct: Academic Misconduct and/or termination of access to their Office 365 account.

We are going to walk you through the steps to get your Free Office 365. Keep in mind that we’re not talking about the trial version here that you can only use for a month. You will get the full version with all the features for unlimited time until your term at your school ends. Here’s how you get it:
- Visit this link: Office for Students, Teachers and Schools.
- Under the “Get Office 365 for free” heading enter your school’s e-mail address that’s been given to you. Remember, you won’t be able to get the offer if you submit an e-mail address other than your school’s (e.g Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo).
- If your school or university is qualified to avail this opportunity then you will receive an e-mail regarding your free office 365 license.

What to do if your School isn’t registered?
Assuming your school / university isn’t registered to avail this offer there’s a way you can get it registered. If you’re in the Senior management of your school or if you work in the IT department, you can enroll your school by going to this link: Register your School and submitting the form after filling it accurately.
If you’re just a student or a teacher then you can ask your Principal or the Head of your school’s IT department to submit the form on behalf of your school. Once the registration process is complete your school will be authorized to get Office 365 for free. All students and teachers will then be able to apply by following the steps we explained above.
